bird island snorkeling

yesterday we went to bird island and snorkeled. we saw many animals including many many sea lions. sea lions are a very cool animal. they are a marine mammal that has a thick blubber to stay warm and float. their body is very hydrodynamic and they are much faster at swimming than we were. they have two sets of flippers, their front set helps them propel themselves through the water while the back set helps them steer. bird island has the largest population of sea lions in mexico.

we also saw a lot of fish and even a nudibranch. nudibranch or sea slugs are a gastropod like snails and other slugs. they are also part of the mollusk phylum that include things like clams and even octopus and squids. we also saw a couple stone fish which are supposed to be venomous. they have spines on their top fins that when stepped on or chomped on, injects venom into them.

snorkeling was super cool and was honestly my favorite part of the trip.
